CyberGhost Review

The wide array of server locations provides users with more locations to access content from, impacting performance. The server number ensures that overcrowding is avoided; this dramatically impacts speed also.

The more diverse the server locations offered by a VPN, the more options you have for selecting the best server and spoofing your location. More extensive server networks can also improve your chances of locating a server near where you are.

VPNsaver considers CyberGhost one of the best VPN providers for 2022 due to its clients’ array of protection and security features. As we will see shortly, their privacy policy, encryption, DNS feature, etc., earn them this ranking. Also, they have a ranking of 4.8 from about 13,000 reviews with Trustpilot, a bit higher than Express and Surfshark alike.

Payment Details

CyberGhost has a wide array of subscription packages. They have the normal sub-plan and other optional features, like Dedicated IP and Password manager. The subscription plans also come with great incentives for users; it includes individual plan money-back guarantees, heavy discounts for more extended patronage, etc.

Their plans range from one-month sup with goes for $12.99, with the 14-day cash-back guarantee.

The six-month plan goes for $6.39/mo. and a 45-day money-back guarantee.  As you can see, this means a discount of 52%.

Lastly, the two-year plan is billed at $2.17/month, which comes with a 45-day cash-back guarantee. This is about an 83% discount.

Optional packages also include dedicated IP for $4/month and a password manager for $3.49/mo.

Compared to VPNs like IPVanish, which has a monthly sub-plan for $10.99/mo., CyberGhost may be tagged as one of her most expensive VPN service providers. But the question to ask is whether the service is worth the pay.

Billing methods

Compared to IPVanish, which has just two recognized means of payment, CyberGhost VPN offers users a variety of payment methods. They partner with multiple third-party Internet vendors who are solely responsible for your personal information, such as your credit card number or PayPal account, and are never linked to a CyberGhost VPN account or made available to CyberGhost S.R.L.

You can also be assured that these third-party agencies will not be given any information about the account an activation code is connected to. CyberGhost currently accepts payment via PayPal, Credit Cards, and Cryptocurrency.

What do I get for my money?

CyberGhost guarantees its users a high-quality and efficient service. We’ll take a quick look at some of the CyberGhost VPN’s features. Hopefully, you’ll recognize the worth of your money.

We’ll also want users to understand that so-called free VPNs are fakes that pose security risks. These security features are not cheap to implement; thus, for any VPN to provide these top-tier features for free or at a low cost, they must either receive character funding from somewhere or steal from their users to fund themselves. And, unfortunately, that is precisely what they do. They are known to sell users’ data to advertising firms, install malware, and demand payment. So, what do you stand to enjoy when you subscribe to CyberGhost?

Encryption is simply how a VPN conceals your identity on the internet. A strong encryption service means that a security system cannot track or spy on you.

For encryption, CyberGhost uses the well-known WireGuard®, IKEv2, and OpenVPN protocols. To secure their connections, all of these employ the impenetrable 256-bit AES encryption technology. Using this encryption ensures privacy because it can withstand brute force attacks from even the most powerful computer. A powerful computer will require approximately 3 million brute force attacks to break this encryption.

Encryption works by converting all received instructions into cyphertext. This text is sent to the server, which then communicates with the intended website. It decrypts the text, receives your response from the site, encrypts once more, and finally decrypts when it reaches your device. Encryption, therefore, is VPN’s primary privacy feature. It keeps you safe from tracking or spying by ISP’s or other cybercriminals.

No-log policy

Logs are simply primary data about an internet user. Logs are like the tracks you leave when you visit a website. They store information about your website activities. Because you connect to the internet through a VPN server, the VPN is in charge of your log. Any VPN’s logging policy is critical to privacy because any server that keeps logs jeopardizes your complete privacy. It means they have the power to either give you logs out or spy on you. But it’s worth noting that CyberGhost has a no-log policy.

It means that CyberGhost has no idea what you do online, nor do they record how much bandwidth you use when using their server. According to CyberGhost, “the only way to secure your data is not to store it.” It implies that even if your ISP requests your data, CyberGhost will not provide it because the data does not exist. To dispel any doubts, they published their transparency reports for 2015 and 2020, respectively.

However, CyberGhost made it clear that they only keep minimal data such as email addresses, payment information, and third-party cookies to help improve users’ experiences. While this is a welcome idea, CyberGhost has failed to implement a VPN audit, as other VPNs have, causing uproars about the veracity of their transparent claim. It will aid in the consolidation of convictions and the clearing of the air.

Streaming and Netflix

Many streaming services are geographically restricted. Access becomes impossible once you leave the location of their service. Also, some shrill companies, such as Netflix, have robust anti-VPN technology. This puts vulnerable VPN service providers at risk. But don’t worry, CyberGhost servers give you access to all of your favorite streaming channels. All you have to do is switch locations, and it’ll work like magic. They provide a quick switching service. A multiple deceive connectivity feature also allows users to watch multiple favorite channels when connected to the appropriate device.

Their services have highly optimized streaming features that allow you to watch your favorite HD videos without buffering. Device compatibility is also not an issue. CyberGhost VPN works on all major operating systems, including macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS, and Android. You can also use CyberGhost VPN with your smart TV or game console.

CyberGhost has specially dedicated servers to provide users with access to anti-VPN sites such as Netflix. Unlike other VPNs, CyberGhost does not require you to test their various US location servers. This will be handled quickly and effectively by their specially dedicated server. We conducted our experiment, and the outcome was astounding. The Streaming service was speedy and did not waste any time. You can look them up for more details on how this works.

Kill switch

The Kill Switch disconnects the internet connection when the VPN is turned off, protecting the user’s data even if the VPN connection fails. A VPN without a Kill Switch is asking for trouble. While some users are unhappy with CyberGhost’s automatic Kill Switch and would like to decide when it activates or deactivates, it is still widely used. Their hundreds of VPN servers in the United States alone ensure robust VPN connections and less of a chance for them to fail and disrupt your browsing.

As a result, the Kill Switch is rarely noticed, and even if noticed, after the first irritation wears off, consumers will realize that there are a few reasons why keeping the Kill Switch on is a good idea. But just remember that CyberGhost’s kill switch is available in the app. On the other hand, the provider saves you time by immediately enabling it, so you don’t have to look for it. If you wish to disable it, which we don’t encourage, you may go to Settings.

Dedicated IP

CyberGhost provides dedicated IP addresses, ensuring that your traffic appears to originate from the same IP address and is less like VPN traffic. The company boasts about its tokenized system for distributing dedicated IP addresses without tracking who uses which IP address.

CyberGhost offers this feature for an additional $5 per month, with the annual subscription lowering to $4 per month (with 14 months extra for free during the first term). Pay the fee, and you’ll be given a unique IP address for your usage only, lowering the possibility of being barred by sites due to other people’s poor conduct and allowing you to access IP-restricted business networks while using the VPN.

When you sign up for the plan, you will select your chosen place from a small selection that includes Montreal, Frankfurt, Paris, London, Manchester, Chicago, and New York.

NoSpy servers

CyberGhost VPN provides NoSpy servers, which it claims are specially tuned servers housed in a high-security server facility in CyberGhost’s home country of Romania. This is similar to ProtonVPN’s Secure Core servers in that it has enhanced physical security. ProtonVPN, on the other hand, uses its Secure Core servers for multi-hop connections, whereas CyberGhost does not offer any at all.

Because NoSpy features can’t be added to an existing subscription, we couldn’t test them to give you an objective review.

Does CyberGhost permit P2P connection? (Torrenting)

P2P refers to a self-organized network in which each connected computer has equal rights and works as both a server and a client simultaneously. CyberGhost doesn’t just support peer-to-peer (P2P) transmission, but its arrays of servers, a robust encryption protocol, and leak protection make it a perfect VPN for torrenting. The P2P transmission is through a dedicated torrenting server. Because P2P and regular traffic is already protected, no additional changes are required to safely connect to the P2P servers.

However, according to their website page, CyberGhost does not support P2P in all locations. They had to block P2P protocols on specific servers, either due to strategic (this is traffic that unnecessarily slows down other users’ traffic) or legal reasons in countries where we are forced by providers to block torrent traffic.

Cyberghost features

Performance/Speed test

CyberGhost had a reputation for being slow in the past. However, with recent software updates and considerable network enhancements, they are now a speed force to be reckoned with. CyberGhost’s download rates are routinely in the 80 Mbps range and frequently exceed 90 Mbps. That is extremely fast for a consumer VPN.

Download speeds of 170-210Mbps were typical for their OpenVPN in the United Kingdom. For most scenarios, that’s more than adequate, although we’ve seen other providers do considerably better. But none of it mattered after we switched to WireGuard, and CyberGhost’s UK servers attained a blistering 760-770Mbps.

We frequently notice significant discrepancies between UK and US results, which is understandable given the differences in servers and locations. The situation is a little worse for uploads. However, they are still blazing for the most part.

CyberGhost assistance begins with its web guides, including instructions for installing the service on Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, Android, Linux, and other platforms. These do a good job describing crucial processes, such as downloading the Windows program, with screenshots and helpful hints (how to choose a secure password, for instance). The knowledgebase search engine is also simple. It depends on you carefully selecting the best possible term (searching for speed and ‘performance,’ for example), and even if you get that right, the results don’t appear to be arranged by usefulness. Nonetheless, there is just about enough good stuff here to help you with the fundamentals. If everything else fails, you may always contact a natural, live person via email or live chat assistance.

They support a wide range of devices and platforms. For this, CyberGhost VPN has applications as well as manual configurations.

Cyberghost app

The windows profiles are pre-configured and optimized for most usage scenarios (Streaming, Torrenting, etc.). Other security features include a kill switch, an ad blocker, a no-tracking tool, and others. Lastly, it uses the OpenVPN, IKEv2, and WireGuard® protocols.

The CyberGhost Windows client starts with a simple, lightweight console that shows the connection status, a list of available locations, and a Connect button. But don’t be fooled: there’s a lot of functionality hidden in a right-hand panel that you can access whenever you need it. A country selector shows all countries and their distance from you. (The app previously displayed server load information, but this has been removed.) You can filter this to only show servers optimized for streaming or torrenting.

In general, the service connects quickly, but we noticed one issue: there are no notifications to let us know when it connects or disconnects.

It uses the IKEv2 as the primary protocol. Profiles are also pre-configured and optimized for most usage scenarios (Streaming, Torrenting, etc.). You also enjoy a Wi-Fi security smart feature. The CyberGhost MacOS app lacks many of the features found in the Windows version, but some of the most important ones have made the transition.

The macOS version of CyberGhost’s service has a flat purple and yellow interface. The tiny window can be expanded to be much larger, allowing you to see all available servers. You can choose which individual server you want to use, just like in the Windows version, or you can use servers that are best for specific activities, such as Netflix streaming or file downloads.

It employs the WireGuard® and OpenVPN protocols and a CLI-type (Command Line Interface) application.

Smartphones have a more rudimentary but easy-to-use interface. When compared to their desktop counterparts, mobile VPN apps are frequently underpowered, but CyberGhost’s mobile apps are surprisingly capable.

The app opens with the typical very simple portrait interface, such as a Connect button and the name of your selected location. When you switch to tablet-friendly landscape mode, the location list and Connect button appear on the same screen, making it easier to find and connect to the server you need.

You can configure the app to automatically connect to insecure Wi-Fi, and protocol support includes OpenVPN and WireGuard (but no IKEv2).

Split tunneling and a content blocker are among the features of CyberGhost for Android. You can also specify the MTU size, VPN protocol and enable random port connections. CyberGhost also offers Domain Fronting, which the company claims is required if their API is inaccessible due to censorship.

The iPhone app comes with a big connection button with the words “Best Connection” underneath it. The app also displays a list of individual servers from which to choose. That level of control over server selection is difficult to find in other iOS VPN apps.

While Cyberghost excels in almost all criteria, there’s still considerable concern about privacy policy. There has been a lot of dissatisfaction about the No-log policy and transparency. We believe that they can do more to clean the air. One way is by adopting an internal audit system. However, they remain a top-notch VPN service provider.
